David Fizdale did not hold back in his criticism of the referred after the Grizzlies loss to the San Antonio Spurs in game 2 of the playoffs.
Fizdale decimated the refereeing crew Monday night for failing to call fouls on his players during their 96-82 loss to the Spurs.
Fizdale unleashed one of the all-time great postgame rants, claiming the officials "won't rook us" and concluding his press conference with "Take that for data!" after breaking down the numbers. Kawhi Leonard of the Spurs hit 19 of 19 with his free throws.
"Kawhi shot more free throws than our whole team, explain it to me", Fizdale said. The Grizzlies took 15 free throws as a team against San Antonio's 32 even though Memphis attempted 35 shots in the paint, 17 more than the Spurs.
We have match winners - Chelsea can bounce back according to Begovic
After a run of kind fixtures, Spurs have a tricky run-in which includes the last ever North London derby at White Hart Lane. The only time Chelsea played as poorly as they did against Manchester United was in September against Arsenal.
The coach's parting message has become a catchphrase for the team, which announced plans to sell the saying on T-shirts for $20 at Memphis' FedEx Forum for Game 3 on Thursday. But after the Raptors stayed step-for-for step with Milwaukee in transition with a smaller but quicker lineup in Game 2, coach Jason Kidd has said he hopes to get better play out of the half-court game too. Kawhi scored 9 in the quarter to bring his total to 27, and Conley continued to lead Memphis with 19. this was Memphis' first won quarter since Game 1, Q 1. They're going to need him tomorrow.
Leonard opened the game by making his first three shots and four free throws as the Spurs built a 13-point lead, the same deficit they faced in the opening period Saturday. After calling it "huge" for the team's confidence, he then went off on a tangent, ripping into the officiating and how Leonard had more free throws than his entire team, despite being a team that is more aggressive closer to the basket. First half, we had 19 shots in the paint and had six free-throws. We had 15 free throws for the game. "The Bears are who we thought they were!"
The reigning National Basketball Association champions appeared to be cruising to an easy win after opening up an 18-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
NOTES: Spurs F/C Pau Gasol played 476 games for the Grizzlies from 2001-08, winning the 2001-02 NBA Rookie of the Year Award and becoming the franchise's first-ever All-Star (2006).
