Georgia House Race Down to 2 Candidates; Runoff Set for June

Or will Democrats regard it as a disappointment given the ideal storm of factors that seemed to be lining up in Ossoff's favor for Tuesday's vote?

Trump made a last-minute intervention in the race this week, aware it was already being seen as a referendum on his political prowess.

President Donald Trump has embraced autocrats as potential partners without hesitation, even if it means ignoring their heavy-handed tactics at home.

DuBose Porter, chairman of the Georgia Democratic Party, said the 6th District offers the flawless setting for state and national Democrats to prove their momentum heading into 2018.

The 30-year-old documentary filmmaker came out of nowhere to almost win the seat in the heavily Republican 6th Congressional District.

But Trump only won the district by one percentage point in the 2016 presidential election.

Democrat Jon Ossoff will face Republican Karen Handel in a June 20 runoff to decide Georgia's 6th Congressional District Special Election. Some said they'd voted for a Democrat for the first time to send a message to Washington. He just "hopes to have a Republican elected", Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. "It is all Republicans, all hands on deck".

Around 9 a.m., the president tweeted that Democrats "failed" in the Kansas race and "are now failing in Georgia". Great job Karen Handel!

Novice Democrat candidate Jon Ossoff fell short of pulling off a major upset in a congressional election in Atlanta, Georgia. Another special election is coming up in Montana next month. "All she has to do to win is continue running her race and not screw it up".

"She's the person who supports Donald Trump's efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act".

Dustin Beach is a reporter for TheStatehouseFile.com, a news website powered by Franklin College journalism students. Melanie Wright (R-Yorktown) says she's concerned about taking away Hoosiers' vote.

"I think this was a big loss for them", he exclaimed.

"We have a lot of wind at our back. The progressive energy out there is palpable", he added.

Considering how important this election is as a sort of measurement for how both parties are doing in the Trump era so far, she'll most likely still be receiving all kinds of support from the president - whether she wants it or not.

In this special election to fill the seat vacated by Tom Price, now the HHS Secretary, 50% or more was needed to win. Tom Price represented the district, which covers several suburbs north of Atlanta, until January, when he stepped down to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

Party officials say they can beat Ossoff once the primary is over and they unite behind a single candidate. "Bring it on!" he said.

If this race goes down to a runoff, much will hinge on which Republican candidate enters the final fray - whether it's a Trump-supporting contender, or an establishment Republican. Cory Booker, D-N.J. Gulley said Tuesday that they all "make me feel like my generation is being heard".

In fact, Trump gave Ossoff his opening in the first place.

With Handel as its vice president, Komen announced that it would no longer fund organizations that were under investigation-and of course, congressional Republicans were "investigating" Planned Parenthood as part of their ongoing political attacks on it.

Mr Ossoff, a film-maker who lives just outside the electoral district in Georgia, declared as a candidate in January, with the Democratic party quickly coalescing around his candidacy.
