Trump's first egg roll marks the 139th year of the White House tradition, which dates to 1878.
The President appeared to forget White House protocol yesterday at the annual Easter egg roll, and it was down to Melania to remind him. First lady Melania Trump and 11-year-old son Barron both immediately put their hands over their hearts while the president stood with his hands by his side.
Children and families roamed the White House lawn at Monday's event, pushing wooden eggs across the grass with oversized spoons, playing beanbag games and coloring drawings that are being sent to US troops stationed overseas.
The president, dressed in his signature suit and long red tie, took advantage of the occasion to tout American strength and exceptionalism and the "competitive" spirit of the children participating in the marquee race, in which eggs are rolled across the South Lawn of the White House with a wooden spoon.
The children attending the event, some wearing red caps with Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again" on them, took part in the race and egg hunt, decorated cookies, wrote thank-you letters to U.S. soldiers and participated in other fun activities.
While all eyes were on the hunt for the Easter Bunny it was First Lady Melania Trump that attracted a lot of attention on the weekend.

This compares to 10% of children from the wealthiest families. "This will continue to be achieved through our school organisation plan".
He also mentioned service members, saying that he and the first lady would be singing cards to send to troops.
Hundreds of kids scampered around the White House lawn on April 17 to see who could get their hands on some fun Easter eggs, packed with all kinds of delicious sugary treats like chocolate and gummy bears.
Later, when ABC News reportedly pressed Trump on his next move on the Korean Peninsula, he said, "You'll see".

Barron will be the first boy to live in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr., who was born weeks prior to his father's 1961 inauguration. While speculation had swirled that Melania Trump was unhappy with her life in the spotlight, they showed no signs of relationship problems at the Easter Egg Roll. There will also be a "reading nook, music stage, official egg roll, and other fun events", according to the White House website.
