Comey had accused Trump of firing him to try to undermine the FBI's investigation of a possible collusion between the Trump Campaign and Russian Federation in alleged efforts to influence last year's presidential election.
Is there an investigation?
The Washington Post, citing anonymous sources, had reported some hours earlier that Mueller, who is probing Russia's election interference and the possible links between Moscow and Trump's campaign, had added a key element to that probe, namely that the President would now be under investigation for obstruction of justice.
Trump's Twitter response followed days of intensifying criticism of Mueller from some conservatives who have charged the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director and his team with political bias and have claimed his relationship to Comey and an earlier meeting with Trump amount to conflicts of interest.
The president wrote on Twitter Friday: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"
In a two-part tweet posted before 7 a.m., Trump wrote: "The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt".
USA intelligence agencies have concluded that Moscow interfered in last year's presidential campaign to try to tilt the vote in Trump's favor.
Two senior intelligence officials, Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, and Mike Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller as early as this week.
Baker's views didn't change, even as Comey told Trump a second and third time that he was not being investigated.

The left-arm pacer removed Rohit Sharma in the very first over of the innings as he was trapped plumb in front of the stumps. In response, india were all out for 158 as their batting line completely collapsed in pursuit of 339-run target.
Similarly to how Trump had the authority to invoke executive privlege over Comey in order to prevent him from testifying before the Senate, Trump could also invoke executive privelege in order to block the release of informative documents, but a move like that would almot certainly be ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
The top lawyer for the Trump transition team has ordered the organization's staff to preserve all records and other materials related to the widening investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian representatives.
It appears Trump is referring to Rod Rosenstein, who set the stage for Comey's dismissal in a letter to Trump. Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said on ABC's "This Week" that the panel is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist.
Trump was strongly critical of some of Comey's testimony but said Comey had vindicated him by saying while he was at the agency, Trump was not the subject of the FBI's Russian Federation probe.
Comey was unabashed about accusing Trump and his administration of telling "lies", and said he began the practice of immediately making notes after talking with the president because "I was honestly concerned that he might lie" about the conversations. The inquiry has expanded to include an examination of whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice, The Post reported Wednesday.
"Oh, I was gonna fire regardless of recommendation", President Donald Trump said. We don't yet know who all of those people are, but we do know some of the names.
The new allegations against Trump center on his own admission that he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation investigation, and suggestions he asked several top intelligence officials for their help altering the inquiry s direction. If they find none, I'm certain Mueller will forthrightly report that fact - but only after completing a proper investigation, which takes time.
And which threatens to move far away from its original focus: alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, for which no real evidence has been offered.
