Dennis Rodman, the former National Basketball Association bad boy who has palled around with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, flew to Pyongyang on Tuesday on a trip he says he hopes will "open a door" for his former "Celebrity Apprentice" boss - U.S. President Donald Trump. He was sentenced in March 2016 to 15 years in prison with hard labor. North Korea sentenced Warmbier to prison after he admitted trying to steal a propaganda banner during a trip there.

The family said it was told by North Korean officials, through contacts with American envoys, that Warmbier fell ill from botulism sometime after his March 2016 trial and lapsed into a coma after taking a sleeping pill, the Washington Post reported.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says the State Department secured the 22-year-old's release at President Donald Trump's direction.

Mr Tillerson said the Department of State was continuing "to have discussions" with North Korea about the release of other three American citizens imprisoned there.

Asked whether the U.S. wanted to see an Iran-style global embargo to deny exports of petroleum and other products to North Korea, Mr Tillerson said that this would only work if Russian Federation and China co-operated.

The North Korean side claimed they were detaining him because he had been teaching unauthorized material and engaging in inappropriate activities, Leigh told RFA. Joseph Yun, the US special envoy on North Korea, met with North Korean officials in Oslo, Norway, in May and reached an agreement for Swedish diplomats to visit Warmbier.

A plane carrying Warmbier arrived late Tuesday at an airport in Cincinnati.

"He doesn't deserve this", Fred Warmbier told the Enquirer last month in an interview.

Warmbier's release came as American retired professional basketball star Dennis Rodman started his five-day visit to the DPRK, a country he had visited four times before, raising speculation whether his non-official visit was connected with the release of the detained student.

Rep. Scalise's vital signs stable, doctor says
James Hodgkinson , 66, from Belleville, Illinois, was shot dead by police after opening fire in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday. Griner, who was also shot, is in the hospital in good condition and spirits after a gunshot wound to the ankle, Sava said today.

Jeffrey Fowle, another US tourist from OH detained for six months at about the same time as Miller, was released just before that and sent home on a USA government plane.

North Korea has released 22-year-old U.S. student Otto Warmbier from a 15 year sentence of hard labor, officials said June 13, 2017, as former United States basketball star Dennis Rodman arrived in Pyongyang.

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) - Dennis Rodman's visit to North Korea has been uncharacteristically low-key so far.

Warmbier would have graduated from U.Va. last month had he not been detained.

North Korea is believed to be making progress toward developing a ballistic missile capable of reaching the US. "We'll be relieved to have him home and are looking forward to surrounding him with people who love him".

At the time of his arrest, Warmbier had been on an organized New Year's tour in North Korea, a five-day stopover on his way to Hong Kong for a study-abroad trip. They said they were told their son has been in a coma since his trial - when he was last seen in public - and they had learned of this only one week ago. The few reports that exist about the conference said he admitted to bribing North Korean residents for information about Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program. "No one", Fred Warmbier said. "Since we also have our citizens detained in the North. we are putting pressure on the North to free them through various channels", he said, vowing "utmost efforts".

Otto was found guilty and sentenced in March 2016 to 15 year's hard labor.

Tillerson, at a U.S. Senate hearing on Tuesday, declined to comment on Warmbier's condition.
