It's about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Boston.
Angelo Colon-Ortiz will be arraigned Tuesday in Leominster District Court on assault with intent to rape and other charges in the August 7 death of Vanessa Marcotte.
Marcotte, a 27-year-old Boston University grad, fought for her life, scratching and clawing at the man who attacked and then murdered her while jogged near here mother's Princeton home on August 7, 2016. Marcotte, who worked as an account manager for Google in NY, had gone out to run several hours earlier.
Prosecutors said DNA from under Marcotte's fingernails allowed them to construct a likely profile of the suspect.
Colon-Ortiz was working in Princeton around the time of the murder, but Early would not say what type of work he was doing, nor would he say where in the Central Massachusetts town he was working. "They're thinking that they're smarter than investigators and so oftentimes, even though it's not in their best interest, they may voluntarily agree to do that", she said. He eventually connected with Colon-Ortiz, who volunteered to give the trooper a DNA sample.
Steve Stephens, Facebook killing suspect, was in contact with cops, chief says
A Facebook spokesperson told BuzzFeed that this is a horrific crime, and they do not allow this type of content on the platform. In the shooting video, Stephens told Godwin a woman's name and said, "She's the reason that this is about to happen to you".
Doomed Google exec Vanessa Marcotte's heroic and desperate fight for life played a key role in bringing her suspected killer to justice, cops say. He has not been charged with murder yet, and Colon-Ortiz's attorney Edward Ryan Jr. said the process to add that charge could take about a month.
Early said the state trooper, Rob Parr, recently spotted a dark SUV driven by a Hispanic man driving through Worcester.
Unable to find a piece of paper, Early said the trooper wrote down the vehicle's license plate number on his hand. He then looked it up, visited the home of Colon-Ortiz and left a business card, asking him to call. The sample provided a match to DNAfound on Marcotte's body, and Colon-Ortiz was arrested Saturday.
He was being held Saturday at the state police barracks in Millbury on a $10 million bond and is scheduled to appear in Leominster District Court Tuesday. Early said Colon-Ortiz, who speaks limited English, has requested an attorney. The DNA coupled with an alert State Trooper led to the arrest on Friday of Angelo Colon-Ortiz in connection with the murder, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early.
