The police have not received any report on activist Peter Chong's claims that he was kidnapped in Hatyai, southern Thailand and taken to Pattaya, Hatyai police chief Kittichai Sankatavorn said on Monday (Apr 17). On Wednesday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the activist was not kidnapped and was spotted crossing the Malaysia-Thailand border on April 7, but he also later said they are helping look for him to ensure that he is safe.

Chong had told local police that he had travelled to Thailand to meet someone with information on Koh's disappearance.

"We are working with our Thai counterpart to get to the bottom of the matter".

"If he has the information on missing Pastor Koh, why not share with us?" He also said police will record a statement from Mr Chong to verify his claims. "He has wasted a lot of our man-hours investigating his mysterious disappearance", he said.

Upon reaching Hatyai, he claimed he was abducted and brought to Pattaya.

"According to him, he had gone to Hadyai with the intention of meeting his source who will reveal more info on the disappearance of Pastor", Singh told the publication in his WhatsApp message. "He has caused panic in the country as there were non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who claimed that he was abducted", Khalid said when asked by the media after delivering his keynote speech during the [email protected] programme in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) here yesterday. He arrived back in Malaysia on Sunday.

His tweet was attached with two photos of Chong clad in a pair of shorts and a blue T-shirt, believed to be at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

After he was located, Chong alleged he went to Haadyai, Thailand to investigate the abduction of Pastor Raymond Koh, who was taken by a group of men near his Petaling Jaya home in February.

"As for the rest, investigations are being done under missing person's report".

It has been two months since a closed circuit television recording of Koh being shoved into a vehicle was widely circulated with still no news of him.
