Trump allies and Democrats trade blistering attacks over impeachment

In a day of bitter partisan skirmishing, President Trump's allies and his Democratic antagonists took to the nation's talk shows Sunday to present stridently opposing views of the impeachment inquiry that hit Washington last week like a tornado, sweeping almost all other priorities aside. Ukrainian president Zelensky has backed up Trump, saying there was no pressure, nor quid pro quo, to investigate Biden. "We condemn the President's attacks, and we invite our Republican counterparts to do the same because Congress must do all it can to protect this whistleblower, and all whistleblowers", they said.

Within two weeks, the scandal over his phone call to Ukraine has evolved from a process fight over a whistleblower complaint to an impeachment inquiry.

By all accounts, the Democratic impeachment effort was speeding ahead with a fair amount of coordination between Pelosi, Democratic messaging experts and its political operation.

US President Donald Trump has demanded to meet with the whistleblower who accused him of pressuring Kiev for political gain, as well as with the actual alleged source that passed the information presented in the Ukraine complaint.
