Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and sexual predator, who was indicted on federal sex trafficking charges last month, committed suicide at a Manhattan jail, prison officials announced on Saturday morning.

Following allegations that she recruited underage girls for Epstein's sex-trafficking network, 57-year-old socialite Ghislaine Maxwell is now the focus of the federal investigation into Epstein's dealings.

In documents unsealed on Friday by federal prosecutors in NY, including affidavits and depositions of key witnesses in a lawsuit that Giuffre filed against Epstein and his associate, Giuffre alleged that she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew in three separate locations.

The victim, with Virginia Giuffre, said she was also instructed to have sex with former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Prince Andrew of Britain and other prominent men, the VentureBeat reported on Friday.

Roberts had previously claimed she was also forced to have sex with Prince Andrew and noted attorney Alan Dershowitz.

She sued Ms Maxwell in 2015 for defamation - a case which has since been settled - after the media heiress, daughter of the late newspaper tycoon, Robert Maxwell, said Ms Giuffre was a liar.

Virginia Giuffre's husband woke her early on Sunday morning to tell her Epstein had been found dead in his NY jail cell, where he was being held accused of orchestrating a sex trafficking ring and sexually abusing dozens of underage girls, some as young as 14.

"It is a shame that Epstein will not face justice, and the survivors in this case will not have the satisfaction of his conviction", Scott Berkowitz, president of RAINN - one of the largest anti-sexual violence organizations in the nation - told CNN. In the court files Giuffre describes in Detail the three years in which you want to have been Epstein's and Maxwell's "sex slave": "I was literally trained sexually".

Under a 2008 non-prosecution agreement, Epstein pleaded guilty to state charges in Florida of solicitation of prostitution involving a minor and another similar prostitution charge.

Ms Maxwell denies any wrongdoing.

Buckingham Palace has strenuously denied allegations by one of Epstein's former victims that she had sex with Andrew while under the age of consent.

Soon after her father's death, Ms Maxwell left the United Kingdom to settle in America, where she worked in real estate, and not long after met Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump has not been accused of engaging in underage sex.

The deal was widely criticized, especially in the wake of a blockbuster investigation by reporter Julie K. Brown in The Miami Herald that exposed thousands of emails, court documents, and FBI records implicating Epstein.

Attorney Bradley Edwards, who represents multiple Epstein accusers, believes there are still more unidentified victims who may come forward.

US Attorney General William Barr said he was "appalled" to hear of Epstein's death in custody, while US Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted: "We need answers".

One of the Florida prosecutors, Alexander Acosta, resigned as USA labour secretary in July as the deal came under fresh scrutiny after Epstein's arrest in NY.
