Drake was entering his second season as the Steelers' wide receivers coach after being hired by the Steelers in January 2018. Head coach Mike Tomlin will be the first member of the team to speak publicly since the longtime coach's death. I still can't believe he's no longer with us.
A native of Louisville, Ky., he played college football at Western Kentucky.
Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receivers Coach Darryl Drake during the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp on July 26, 2019 at Chuck Noll Stadium at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. Drake passed away on Sunday at 62. "Thanks for always standing on the table for me". He was a really good coach and an even better friend.

Just 36 hours earlier, they had enjoyed a reunion on the field before the Bucs' preseason opener with the Steelers on Friday night, catching up before the game. Drake did just that, as the Steelers led the National Football League in passing yards last season.
Drake was well-liked by the Steelers, where he was remembered for his one-liners in practice, including "don't drag the toe, click it" when coaching wide receivers to stay in bounds during drills.
One Steeler, in particular, who will look to carry on Drake's legacy is Diontae Johnson, the man Drake said he basically "fell in love with" while spending time with him prior to this year's draft (you can see Drake discuss Johnson shortly after Pittsburgh drafted him in the video at the top of this article).
Drake's passion for his job, and the way he inspired and influence the lives of everyone he came into contact with during his coaching career, is what makes his passing so hard to absorb. "It made me a better husband, and it made me a better man", he said. He has a press conference scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after the team's walkthrough session. As a result, the Steelers canceled all team activities until further notice or Monday at the soonest.
