Meghan attended the final match with sister-in-law Kate Middleton.

The Duchesses were joined by Kate's sister Pippa Middleton in the Royal Box to watch Meghan's close pal Serena Williams take on Simona Halep in the Ladies' Singles Final.

Serena Williams appeared to defend her friend Meghan, who was heavily criticised after her royal protection officers told spectators not to take pictures of her at a previous Wimbledon appearance.

Meghan was a newlywed previous year when she sat courtside with Kate for the Ladies' Singles Final, in which Williams lost to Angelique Kerber.

And their presence hardly went unnoticed. "It was an honor to play in front of her".

Kensington Palace announced that Meghan and Kate would be attending the final together in a statement on Friday.

While UK TV host and commentator Piers Morgan slammed Meghan's hopes for privacy at such a public event.

Williams also added that Meghan was "happy for Simona".

Serena Williams and Meghan Markle have been friends for a long time, with Williams attending Meghan and Harry's wedding a year ago.

"She couldn't be a better friend to me - low moments, high moments she's always there and that's all I want to be to her", she said.

"She saw that she played unbelievably, and that's just the kind of person that she is", Williams said.

In her on-court interview immediately after the match ended, Halep gushed when thanking the royals for coming out.

According to The Sun, the oil and gas safety engineer, who queued from 5am and paid £25 for his Court One seat, said he did not know the Duchess was there and thought the bodyguard was asking him not to photograph the players with their shirts off.
