A record 26.4 million US viewers watched the third season of Netflix's hit show "Stranger Things" over the July 4 holiday weekend, about 17% higher than the debut of season two, according to Nielsen.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer are now writing the fourth (and possibly final) season of their Netflix sci-fi drama, which ventures outside of fictional IN town Hawkins.

Stranger Things has catapulted to the top of Netflix's United Kingdom charts in a busy week for new entrants.

'I think the biggest thing that's going to happen is it's going to open up a little bit, ' Matt told EW on Tuesday. Considering both the emotional and mysterious events of the third season finale, I'd say that the show is sure to venture into new and risky territory.
