Police said Friday that Víctor Hugo Gómez was detained in the Caribbean country.

The thug who apparently organized the botched hit against former Red Sox star David Ortiz has been placed under arrest, according to several reports, including the New York Post.

Authorities said the hitmen confused Ortiz with the cousin - Sixto David Fernandez - during the June 9 shooting at a bar in Santo Domingo.

Prosecutor Jean Alain Rodríguez Sánchez said Gomez, who has alleged ties to Mexico's Gulf Cartel, is wanted by the US Drug Enforcement Agency and allegedly arranged the hit from the United States. The Post also reported Gomez Vasquez as being sought by USA officials for his alleged participation in drug trafficking.
