Professor of political science at Flinders University, Haydon Manning, said Dickson was one of One Nation's best-known candidates.
The footage was part of undercover video not used in Al Jazeera's documentary which showed Mr Dickson and Mr Ashby talking to someone they thought was with the U.S. gun lobby group, the NRA that caused outrage earlier in the year.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has broken down in an emotionally-charged television interview after the resignation of one of her right-hand men over a boozy strip club romp.
"I found the footage hard to watch as my words and actions under intoxication and in that environment, are not a true reflection of myself", it said.
One Nation won four seats in the 2016 election but it has since been plagued by defections and infighting.
Nine said in a statement that the video was "leaked" to the program that broadcast it, "A Current Affair".
"We stand by the story and Mr Dickson's resignation this morning highlights the public interest in broadcasting the footage", they said. "I wouldn't tolerate my own children behaving this way towards women", Hanson said.
And she selected Brian Burston, who quit One Nation to sit as a United Australia Party senator for NSW, and later engaged in a bloody Parliament House scuffle with James Ashby.
Sumo: Wrestlers make beefy salute to 1st day of Japan's new era
Why is the Japanese monarchy important? Japan has witnessed a rare handover of its Chrysanthemum Throne by a living emperor. First in line after Naruhito is his younger brother, Akishino, 53, followed by Akishino's son, 12-year-old Hisahito.
The strip club footage was taken by Al Jazeera as part of the same investigation.
This time, Dickson said in a statement that he "found the [strip club] footage hard to watch as my words and actions under intoxication and in that environment, are not a true reflection of myself".
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has fronted the media about the video, saying: "Steve's language and behaviour was unacceptable and does not meet my expectations, nor the greater public's expectation, of a person who is standing for public office. It shows a person who was drunk and not in control of his actions and I take full responsibility for allowing that to happen", he said. "Al Jazeera condemns the unauthorized use of its material".
Senator Hanson was also caught on camera appearing to question whether the Port Arthur massacre occurred, suggesting it was a government conspiracy.
"I understand that - I won't hold that against any human being".
She said that it wasn't the fact that Mr Dickson had been to a strip club, because this is something that is legal.
"Malcolm Roberts will be up here next week and we will be organising the signage which I am now storing", he posted. I hope people see through this.
"The context that they have released is completely wrong".
