Facebook Inc. said it's banning several controversial far-right figures, including Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopoulos and Laura Loomer, for violating the social-media company's policies on hate speech and promoting violence.

In an effort to contain misinformation and extremism that have spread across the platforms, Instagram and its parent company, Facebook, have banned several prominent right-wing extremists including Alex Jones, Infowars, Milo Yiannopoulos, Paul Joseph Watson, Laura Loomer, and Paul Nehlen under their policies against unsafe individuals and organizations.

Others pages being removed include the official Infowars account and the profiles belonging to Paul Nehlen, a far-right politician, Infowars editor Paul Joseph Watson and right-wing agitators Milo Yiannopoulos and Laura Loomer.

Jones and his media outlet InfoWars were banned from Facebook in August 2018.

"We've always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology", said a Facebook spokesperson. Twitter has also suspended accounts for Jones, Yiannopoulos, and Loomer. Though he's not a far-right extremist, Facebook also banned Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
