Blue Jackets stun Lightning in National Hockey League playoff upset

Looking at the NHL's first-round playoffs, there isn't a bad matchup in the bunch. He's a Toronto product with 44 regular-season National Hockey League games on his resume. But the big prize is now in their sights, the Stanley Cup. I'm just here to make my picks for the first round.

San Jose, which was blown out 7-0 in Game 1 of its six-game, second-round playoff loss to the Golden Knights last season, took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a power-play goal by Pavelski. Nikita Kucherov has the most points in the league with 128, 87 of those being assists.

Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist, and Brock Nelson and Nick Leddy also scored for NY, which was opening a postseason series at home for the first time in 31 years. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are two of the best players on the planet, and it will be key for the Islanders to shut them down.

NOTES: Tampa Bay outscored Columbus 17-3 in sweeping all three games between the teams in the regular season. Previous year the Bruins bested Toronto in the first round and that's where they'll meet up once again. Braden Holtby has been rock solid in the playoffs in the past and they hope he recaptures that for another deep playoff run.

The Leafs have the depth to score goals, but the problem is keeping the puck out of their own net.

With Columbus trailing 3-1 in the third, David Savard deked around Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman and scored 7:56 into the period to make it a one-goal game. "I'm not anxious about our team, how they handle things".

There is a lot of love going around for the Carolina Hurricanes and I'm just not buying into it.

Tiger Woods cops accidental slide tackle after miracle shot at US Masters
It added up to a 68 for the Australian who won the Masters six years ago, and has gone three years since his last victory. Woods would go on to birdie the hole, so the effect of the slide wasn't immediate. "Accidents happen, and we move on".

"I think it's a mindset to go out there", Smith said heading into Round 1, according to NHL.com's Robby Stanley. Sergei Bobrovsky has given up three goals on 29 shots faced. But, Nash and Panarin scored goals over a three-minute span midway through the period. Oh, and then there is their all-star goaltender in Braden Holtby behind it all.

I will look for this game to go Over the total.

A team full of talent but the ingredients to this point have not overly impressive. The Lightning had some of the best players in the NHL this season, with 3 players in the top 12 for points and goals made, as well as goalie Andrei Vaseilevski leading the league in wins, this season. Let's not forget that they also have to deal with Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel and Kris Letang. NY has home ice, but I'm still going with the Penguins in six. You could easily argue both are better than any team coming out of the Central bracket.

What's odd is the Lightning are a team who have had recent postseason success. "That's what this time of year is about, and we're going to need even more from him if we're going to advance". Detroit leads with six wins, but they won the Cup only one of those seasons. Nashville, on the other hand, has been a constant in the playoffs as of late. They won the Trophy in 1992, but lost to the Penguins in the Division Finals. "Nothing is going to get easier". Winnipeg was the more aggressive team throughout most of the first game, outhitting the Blues 36-21.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Tyler Bozak scored with 2:05 left in the third period to give the St. Louis Blues the victory in Game 1 of the Western Conference opening-round playoff series.

The Islanders led three times in regulation with the Penguins managing to tie it each time.

After winning the Stanley Cup in 2017-18 the Washington Capitals fell just short of returning to the Finals for a second consecutive year after losing to the eventual champions in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Jets have struggled with injuries as well as the recent absences on the stat sheet of Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler.
