Two teen babysitters are facing child endangerment and assault charges after a disturbing video was reportedly posted online that appeared to show them laughing while putting a crying baby into a refrigerator and shutting the door, authorities said.

"We were notified by Swampscott (police) of video involving an infant child", Danvers police Chief Patrick Ambrose told the local media. She says she had no idea of the incident until she was shown the video, that was posted on Snapchat, by police. "I'm traumatized from that".

The baby's mother says the girls thought it was a joke and she doesn't believe they would harm the baby in any way.

A pair of juvenile girls have been arrested after putting an infant in a refrigerator, prosecutors allege.

That baby was only in the refrigerator for a few seconds and was not injured.

The girls were released to their parents after their arraignments Tuesday in juvenile court on charges of child endangerment and assault and battery with a risky weapon.

"My daughter is OK, I want everyone to know that I was not aware of the situation and it's very unfortunate", she said. I feel like they learned a lesson and would never do it again. Police said the child was not hurt in the incident and is now at home with family.

Bonnie says her niece is no longer allowed to babysit or see her 7-month-old.

"Be careful who you leave your children with", she cautioned.

Danvers Police and the Essex County District Attorney's Office are also looking into the case.
