ABC says it has postponed the "Little Mermaid Live" program it was planning to air in October.
ABC is throwing back The Little Mermaid. Praising the project as "unique", the spokesperson then revealed that the network would be moving the production and its broadcast for next year, the better to give it "all the attention it deserves".
If you're looking forward to a live musical on television, NBC is airing Jesus Christ Superstar next Easter and Fox will be doing Rent next year as well. Done + Dusted (CBS' Victoria's Secret Fashion Show), Hamish Hamilton, Ian Stewart, David Jammy, Katy Mullan and Richard Kraft of Kraft-Engel Productions were set to executive produce. According to USA Today, who first broke the news, the sets for the musical had already been built, and it was nearly ready to go into rehearsal...even though we have literally not heard anything about the cast for the show.

Statistics Canada reported Friday the province's unemployment rate last month was 6.6 per cent, up from 6.5 per cent in June . The share of the population that is employed climbed to 60.2 percent, matching an eight-year high touched in April.
One other reason that ABC has made a decision to put their "Little Mermaid" musical broadcast on hold for this year was financial difficulties.
The Little Mermaid is the brainchild of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
The Disney-owned network has postponed plans for its planned live musical rendition of the animated classic.
