The music video for the monster hit "Despacito", performed first by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee only to be boosted mightily by a remix featuring pop superstar Justin Bieber, is now lord of YouTube, claiming almost 3 billion views on the website since January.

It only took 204 days for "Despacito" to garner 2,996,733,449 (and counting) views on Youtube, knocking off previous recorder holder Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again" from the top spot. It has more than 2,997,026,945 views, and, as Vulture points out, it's only been out since January.

YouTube released a chart showing how "Despacito" stacks up to other top videos.

The video, which is not the remix version featuring Justin Bieber, has 2,994,561,023 views at the time of publishing.

Today, that lashing was taken up a notch, this time on live television, as he spoke to CNN host, Alisyn Camerota . He did so in February 2016 during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business .

Daddy Yankee reacted to the news with an Instagram video thanking YouTube.

With just under 3bn views, just a couple more million than Khalifa, Despacito - which means slowly - continues its run as the song of the summer, having spent the last 12 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.

The news adds to a big day of achievements for the artists, whose remix of the song in collaboration with Justin Bieber was named United Kingdom number one for an 11th week. The music industry has changed. Lastly, Despacito became the most liked video on YouTube just last month.

"I recognize the influence that [YouTube] has", Daddy Yankee told Billboard Friday.
