The iconic toy became available in new sizes (tall, curvy and petite) with different skin tones and fashion ensembles. Ken's wardrobe also got an update, with outfits now ranging from business casual to athletic wear.
We are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation, said Mattels Lisa McKnight, who oversees the Barbie line.
"The Barbie brand has always reflected the times, so modernizing Ken is the next step in the brand's evolution to offer more diverse products", the California-based company said in a release. Since introducing the different body types for the dolls in 2016, Mattel saw a 7 percent boost in sales.
The company behind Barbie announced its most diverse line of Ken dolls Tuesday.
The Ken doll's overhaul also includes "slim" and "original" body types as well as different clothes such as graphic T-shirts, skinny ties and plaid shirts.
A publicist tells us, "We found inspiration for our Ken looks from everywhere-from Brooklyn to Barcelona".

With Barbie approaching her 60th birthday, Mattel have launched a new phalanx of on-trend Ken dolls fit for the 21st century. Barbie sales were down 13 percent in the first three months of the year compared with the same period a year ago.

Mattel is rolling out a new line of Ken dolls aimed at a more diverse audience.
Most of the dolls are now available to customers in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and preorder is available for other dolls that will not be ready until autumn 2017 and spring 2018.
