Jordan Spieth wins Travelers Championship in playoff

JORDAN SPIETH ENJOYED going "nuts" after his stunning win at the Travelers Championship on Sunday. He joins Tiger Woods as the only player since the Second World War to have 10 PGA Tour titles before his 24th birthday. And Jack Nicklaus won his tenth Tour victory when he was just a little older than Spieth.

Minutes after saying this win was "One for the ages", receiving the trophy Sunday and donning the Travelers Championship blazer, Spieth praised the tournament and the many vocal fans.

After shooting an even-par 70 in the final round, Spieth - who had to get up and down from the par-four 18th's right greenside bunker to force a play-off - went right back to 18 to face off against Berger.

Though Spieth has had two top-five finishes in tournaments since the end of April, he's been somewhat disappointing in majors, tying for 11th as the Masters and missing the cut at the U.S. Open.

Well, Spieth showed us all just what he's made of after a compelling Sunday in Hartford, CT, and his reaction said it all. "There's not really much you can say".

Jordan Spieth needed an extra hole, a little bit of luck and an awesome final shot to finish off a wire-to-wire victory in the Travelers Championship.

When Berger missed his birdie putt from the left front portion of the green, Spieth took off his hat, shook Greller's hand and then the hand of Berger, whose nickname is Boge.

Berger and Spieth each finished regulation at 12-under, with the former sinking three birdies on the back nine.

Spieth found the fairway on 18, but hit his second shot from 116 yards into a greenside bunker. Spieth's drive clipped a tree to the left and landed in the fairway, but about 150 yards short of his normal drive and 230 yards from the hole.

Petition: Remove Rodman from Hall of Fame
Rodman continued this one-man PR campaign for North Korea even as his fellow American Otto Warmbier fought for his life. The Hall of Fame did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily News on Wednesday.

As soon as he holed the shot, Spieth flung his sand wedge, ran out of the bunker toward his caddie, Michael Greller, and both leaped in the air for a chest-bump.

It was quite a celebration after Spieth hit his tournament-winning shot.

"If I was in Berger's shoes, I'd be cursing Jordan Spieth right now for the break off the tee and then holing a 30-yard bunker shot, that's a lot of luck". At the 2013 John Deere Classic, he hit a similar shot from the beach to force a three-way playoff, which he went on to win; it was the first PGA TOUR win of his career, and at just 19, he was the youngest golfer to win on TOUR in 82 years.

He ended up in the bunker again on the first play-off hole, but he did better than put it to within three feet.

"I thought it was going to miss to the right", he said. Both Gene Littler (1959) and Tim Morris (1982) won at Wethersfield Country Club.

"That was fun", Spieth said.

Playing in the group ahead of Spieth, Berger birdied 13 and the reachable par-4 15th to pull even.

Charley Hoffman (66) and Danny Lee (67) tied for third, three strokes back.
