Mr Kushner, a 36-year-old real estate developer with little experience of global diplomacy or political negotiation, arrived in Israel on Wednesday morning and will spend barely 20 hours on the ground - he leaves shortly after midnight.
In an interview with the New York Times in November, Trump said he "would love to be able to be the one that made peace with Israel and the Palestinians" adding that it "would be such a great achievement".
That's because Kushner started his 15-hour trip to the Middle East on Wednesday by mourning with the family of an Israeli police officer, Hadas Malka, who was killed by a Palestinian assailant in East Jerusalem on Friday.
If not, why is he traveling to Mid East to do what?- Simon Hood (@simonhood1) June 22, 2017 "This is an opportunity to pursue our common goals of security, prosperity and peace", the Israeli Prime Minister said. "Jared, I welcome you here in that spirit".
Kushner replied: "Thank you".
"Thank you, the president sends his best regards and it's an honor to be here with you", said Kushner. The committee met every two months until the outbreak of the Second Intifada in September 2000.
Even before his meetings, Kushner faced a new crisis.

In exchange, Philadelphia is willing to part with two of their four second-round draft picks, specifically picks No. 36 and 39. The 20 players invited to the green room at Barclays Center posed on stage about an hour before the telecast was to begin.
Kushner arrived in Israel on Wednesday as a part of the new U.S. administration's push to begin mapping out a pathway to the resumption of direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. The U.S. has long considered Jewish settlements on the Palestinian-claimed land a barrier to peace, but the Trump administration has wavered on that precedent.
Netanyahu's office released a short video showing Kushner, along with envoy Jason Greenblatt and U.S. Ambassador David Friedman, arriving at the Israeli premier's office in Jerusalem. "During the meeting, Kushner told President Abbas that President Trump is committed to reaching a serious peace deal".
The bulldozer's driver, a kippah-wearing Israeli who said he was from a settlement in the southern West Bank, said they were laying the foundations for two new roads that would lead to the new settlement.
Reuters reported earlier this week that the White House has been holding behind-the-scene talks since Trump's visit to the region at the end of May, which reportedly was planned by Kushner.
The US delegation visiting the region was aiming to gain support from both parties in an attempt to revive the peace process under Trump's presidency.
Abbas also defended paying salaries to prisoners and their families.
