Unlike football and basketball, baseball prospects are much tougher to evaluate and usually take several years to reach the big leagues.

Slot value for the No. 1 overall pick this year is $7.77 million, but the Twins aren't expected to pay that much to steer Lewis away from a University of California, Irvine commitment. Lewis hit.377 with four homers and stole 25 bases for JSerra Catholic High School.

NO. 2: THE CINCINNATI REDS SELECT NOTRE DAME HIGH SCHOOL (CALIF.) PITCHER HUNTER GREENE The 17-year-old fire-baller Hunter Greene was considered by many to be the most talented player in the draft.

At No. 3, the San Diego Padres selected North Carolina prep left-hander MacKenzie Gore, marking the first time since 1990 that the top three picks were all high school players.

The first college player selected was Louisville first baseman/left-hander Brendan McKay, who went fourth overall to the Tampa Bay Rays. Named national player of the year by the National High School Coaches Association, he impressed evaluators and teammates alike with his selfless attitude.

"We're happy we got Royce".

Darjeeling unrest: GJM protests carrying dead bodies of party supporters
However, GJM supporters took out a procession on Saturday; when police stopped them, they hurled stones and bottles. The protestors are also asking for a separate Gorkhaland, a long pending demand of the people of the hills.

The right-handed pitcher and shortstop was taken in the second round of the draft. Already there is talk he could be a designated hitter in the low minors when he's not pitching.

"My body just went numb", Lewis said during an interview with MLB Network.

Fun fact: Ellis also played basketball in high school (Gardena High, CA) and once had 21 assists in a game. On the mound as a senior, he was 3-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched before being shut down to conserve his arm, given his pro career ahead. Greene throws four pitches for strikes, including a fastball that touches triple digits and a plus slider. The Yankees grabbed SC right-hander Clarke Schmidt at No. 16 after he had Tommy John surgery this spring.

Byron Buxton, now starting for the Twins after playing with the 2015 Lookouts, was Twins first pick and the second overall pick in 2012.

In a touching moment that drew a standing ovation from the former major leaguers serving as team representatives, 11-year-old Yankees fan Landis Sims - born without hands or feet - announced his favourite team's first-round selection: SC right-hander Clarke Schmidt at No. 16 overall. New Mexico high school lefty Trevor Rogers got chosen 13th by Miami.

Mike Radcliff, Twins vice president of player personnel, called Lewis "one of elite athletes" of any draft and said his speed is near the top of the scouting scale. Rounds 3-10 will begin at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, and Rounds 11-40 will begin at noon Wednesday.
