May presents bills in Queen's Speech to take Britain out of EU

Eight of 27 bills outlined in the speech deal with the complex Brexit process.

The agenda is essentially a watered down version of the Conservative Party's election campaign manifesto, a document widely blamed for the party's loss of command in Parliament.

Darren Philp, director of policy and market engagement at The People's Pension, adds: 'This was a Queen's Speech that steered clear of pensions policy nearly entirely with issues such as the state pension triple lock seemingly kicked into the long grass'.

"This is a broad program for government that we've put forward, we think it's a good program for government, we think it's a program. that the whole house can get behind", May's spokesman said. But as of Wednesday morning, no deal had been made.

The remarks are written by the prime minister and her staff.

What was in the speech?

The new Bill is said to "provide stability" for farmers and ensure an "effective system" of support to replace the Common Agricultural Policy.

An immigration bill which will allow the government to control the number of people coming here from Europe "while still allowing us to attract the brightest and the best". Immigration was the centerpiece issue in the campaign to leave the European Union, and the government has promised to deliver a policy that controls the inflow.

May's attempt to lead a minority government comes on the heels of a fire at Grenfell Tower that killed at least 79 people, one of the country's worst disasters for a generation.

While powers will be revised, there was no mention of police resources.

Leaving the European Union also means quitting nuclear power regulations, all of which will need to be replicated in United Kingdom law in a new Nuclear Safeguards Bill.

May's own position has been vulnerable after the election outcome.

Also absent were key pledges the Conservatives had given in their manifesto for the recent election which analysts said had bombed with the electorate - such as reform of social care for the elderly and more shake-ups in schools.

Several proposals affecting women were also mentioned in the speech.

Ministers insisted Donald Trump's controversial visit to Britain will go ahead despite it not being listed in the Queen's Speech setting out the Government's programme for the next two years.
