The Sixers are expected to select Washington guard Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 pick in Thursday's NBA Draft.
Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo announced today that the team has acquired the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft from the Boston Celtics. However, the Celtics will receive the lesser pick if either 2019 pick is No. 1 overall.
"Most importantly, we're taking the next step, I believe, in formulating a solid young core of players that ultimately will lead to a successful and sustainable product". They will also have plenty of picks in 2019 as they own their own 2019 pick, Memphis' 2019 pick (if 9+), and the Clippers' 2019 pick (if 15+). If he becomes the star that some project him to be, the Celtics and Ainge specifically will be critiqued and questioned for passing on him for years to come.
In the announcement of their blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Boston Celtics detailed the protections on the future first-round pick headed their way. Ainge said it was "possible" that Boston could make another deal before the draft, but described the swap as "a jump-start" for the Celtics. In fact, he went so far as to say that the Celtics could very well end up getting the guy at No. 3 that they would have taken at No. 1. The Celtics reportedly are intrigued both by Duke's Jayson Tatum and Kansas' Josh Jackson, two 6-foot-8 forwards who are projected to last past Philly now at No. 1 (Fultz) and the Lonzo Ball-obsessed Lakers at No. 2. The Celtics will acquire the 2018 Lakers pick the Sixers own if it falls between No. 2 and 5.
The Philadelphia 76ers thrilled their fans and left some suspense surrounding Thursday's National Basketball Association draft.
Iran fires rockets in 'revenge' at Islamic State in Syria
Like Obama, Trump has focused on Islamic State, leaving for later the question of Assad's fate and the region's mangled alliances. It has also sent thousands of Shiite recruits to fight in Syria and battle IS in neighbouring Iraq, according to officials.
"I felt like it was the right time to move and apply some of those assets to a transaction that would allow this type of thing to happen", Colangelo said during a 34-minute news conference at the team's training facility. If Boston elects to wait a year or two before going all in, Jackson would be a good building block.
As an executive, making decisions in the best interest of the team involves making the correct roster moves for your team, and not sending too many assets to a conference rival. On Saturday he got the chance to work out with Philadelphia.
So the way he looks at it, the deal is a win-win. But the addition of Fultz to a talented albeit unproven young core that includes Simmons, center Joel Embiid and power forward Dario Saric would certainly make the 76ers one of the NBA's most intriguing teams next season. Specifically, the Dubs could use their Bird rights on Iguodala for a more affordable deal than what he might obtain on the open market. The Eagles used a second-round pick to select cornerback Sidney Jones in the 2017 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Lakers know that Paul George wants to play for them, but that doesn't mean he can't change his mind.
