- Two deputies were injured Monday in a shooting at a Tennessee county courthouse, and authorities said the shooter has died. Officials said the suspect had shot himself in the head and was deceased from the incident.

Two deputies have been injured in Tennessee, where a shooting was reported at a county courthouse.

The situation began at 2:30 p.m. when Michael Bell, 37, was in court on charges of kidnapping and evading arrest, among others.

Lucky Knott, a spokesman for the Coffee County Sheriff's Office, said an inmate at the courthouse grabbed a deputy's gun and started shooting.

TBI Director Gwyn said that agents were processing two crime scenes, one at the courthouse and one at the location where Bell shot himself.

Northcott identified the Coffee County deputies as Wade Bassett and Wendell Bowen. Bassett was the only officer on the floor as he proceeded to take Bell back to jail.

"Bell attacked the deputy and a significant struggle ensued, at which time inmate Bell was able to obtain [Bassett's] firearm". At least one of the deputies was wearing a bulletproof vest, but it was not clear which one.

Another who finished in double digits was Rickie Fowler (72), who was poised at yet another major to win only to fall back. As the front nine progressed, it looked increasingly as if it would come down to a question of who would blink first.

The bureau says the two deputies who were injured Monday are undergoing medical treatment.

One officer was shot and a second officer was shot and bitten by an inmate during a struggle over a weapon at the Coffee County Courthouse.

The extent of the deputies' injuries was not available.

Sheriff Steve Graves is with Bowen at Erlanger Medical Center, according to the department.

"I was four to five feet from where the officer was shot", Williams said. They were last listed in stable condition. Northcott said Bell shot the deputy and fled, shooting Bowen on his way out of the building.

The District Attorney General said the courthouse would be closed Tuesday.
