Toufik Kacimi, the chief executive of the Muslim Welfare House, said the man who was arrested had to be rescued by the imam at the centre to stop him being attacked, Sky News reported. Bystanders detained him and handed him over to the police when they arrived at the scene. The man's name was not released. Police say it is not yet clear whether the man's death was a result of the attack.

Eight people were killed and 50 injured on June 3 when three Islamist militants drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people at nearby restaurants and bars.

The van slammed into worshipers leaving the mosque after midnight Ramadan prayers, killing one person and injured 10 others.

The incident is being investigated as a terrorist attack and has been referred to as such by UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

J.K. Rowling is no stranger to speaking up on Twitter, and she did so again on Monday morning. "All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services", she said in a statement.

Mohammed Shafiq of the Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim organization, said that based on eyewitness reports, it seems to be a "deliberate attack against innocent Muslims".

Prime Minister Theresa May said her thoughts were with those injured in "this bad incident".

At the time of his arrest, while waiting in a police van, Osborne was apparently "blowing kisses" to the angry crowd surrounding him. Abdulrahman Aidroos said he and his friends had been tending an old man who had suffered a heart attack when the van was driven at them.

"Our community is in shock", he said, urging people attending prayers to remain vigilant, a warning that was echoed by police. That incident, plus the four attacks, have stretched British authorities and left May's government, which suffered losses in a snap election, reeling.
