The Bollywood leading man expanded his established Knight Riders Brand with the purchase of the Cape Town franchise to add to the teams he already owns in Kolkata and Trinidad.
It is largely foreign-owned - with six of the eight franchises bought by non-South Africans - with players set to be paid in USA dollars.
The city of Port Elizabeth will have Imran Tahir as their marquee name and will be owned by Ajay Sethi. "For the whole South African team to be available to play in this tournament is the most important thing".
In what is a home-coming of sorts, Hashim Amla was announced as the Proteas marquee player for the Durban-based franchise.

The two men will meet for a week every month to negotiate, and use the time in between to "work on proposals". Barnier said the goal of the talks was to deliver an "orderly withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU".
With six of the eight owners global, CSA will be hoping they have hit the jackpot in their attempt to attract as much foreign investment to the tournament as possible.

Speaking alongside England's Kevin Pietersen and West Indian duo Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, McCullum poked fun at the "mercenary" tag applied to cricketers playing in overseas T20 leagues.
According to CSA, a large number of players have registered to participate and team owners will have the opportunity of selecting their team from over 400 players who will be part of the draft which will take place on 19 August.
