"There has been one person arrested".

London Mayor Sadiq Khan urged people to "remain calm and vigilant" and said the Met had deployed extra police to reassure communities, especially those observing Ramadan.

Someone in the crowd yelled to others not to harm the man while he was taken into custody.

The incident comes after two deadly Islamist-inspired attacks this year that used vehicles to ram pedestrians - a stabbing spree earlier this month in the London Bridge area and a March attack in which a man drove a rented auto into crowds on Westminster Bridge.

"When islamist terrorists attack we rightly seek out hate preachers who spur them on". "Our thoughts and prayers with those who got injured and [affected] by this cowardly attack in Finsbury Park area, many casualties in the floor", Kozbar tweeted.

A van struck several worshippers leaving the Finsbury Park mosque early Monday morning after Ramadan prayers.

The attacks were a factor in campaigning ahead of the June 8 election, with May criticised for overseeing a drop of 20,000 in the number of police officers in England and Wales as interior minister from 2010 to 2016. "Our prayers are with the victims", they said on Twitter.

"The British Muslim community requires all decent people to stand with us against this evil violence", he said, adding that "rampant Islamophobia has been on the rise for a number of years".

Police say the driver of a van that hit pedestrians on a London road is a 48-year-old man who has been arrested and taken to a hospital.

He told BuzzFeed: "I think at least eight or 10 people got injured". Eight injured were sent to three separate hospitals and two others were treated at the scene. This happens during Ramadan, when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and engage in intense prayer and feast at sundown. Police say no other suspects have been identified or reported.

Jay Sekulow insists Trump is not under investigation
Trump insists his campaign had nothing to do with Russian efforts to undermine credibility in the US election. This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses.

Britain's terrorist alert level is now at "severe", meaning an attack in highly likely.

Miqdaad Versi, Assistant Secretary General of the MCB, revealed on his twitter account that about three or four worshipers were hit and killed by the vehicle, Efe news reported.

Police have also denied rumors that a knife was involved. The mosque, which today operates largely as a community center, rose to worldwide notoriety in the early 2000s, due to its links with Egyptian-born radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri.

"It appears that a white man in a van intentionally ploughed into a group of worshippers who were already tending to someone who had been taken ill", the Muslim Council said in a statement.

Police have not offered any details about the cause of the crash.

"I've been in touch with the mosques, police and Islington council regarding the incident".

One witness said that a van had hit about ten people returning from Finsbury Park mosque.

According to the Council in a follow-up tweet, the van struck the victims closer to the Muslim Welfare House.

"The gentleman went straight down this road, people were just conversing, talking, just doing what we're doing". Access to the scene was cut and cordoned off by the police.
