US President Donald Trump on Friday said that he was being investigated for firing FBI Director James Comey last month.
The White House narrative has been that Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the man who allegedly told him to fire the FBI Director James Comey, did so because of the ineptitude and disruptions caused by Comey during the Clinton investigation.
And a third tweet contended that despite the "phony Witch Hunt" - Trump capitalized both words as if the phrase is a proper noun - the economy under his watch is booming.
Trump wrote that the investigation has not "been able to show any proof", an allegation that he assessed with one of his signature Twitter catchphrases: "Sad!"
The Associated Press said Mr Mueller was among the candidates Mr Trump interviewed to replace Mr Comey.
The Trump administration and its allies are firing back at the torrent of leaks surrounding Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe, suggesting the anonymous sources tied to these reports can not be trusted - while calling into question the Mueller team's neutrality.

Comey has claimed Trump asked him to drop the investigation when he was heading the bureau, and according to multiple media reports, Trump attempted to enlist several senior intelligence official in a campaign to discredit the investigation and to state publicly that Trump did not collude with the Russian campaign to boost his electoral chances. Rosenstein also appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate all things Trump and Russian Federation. "I can go around them", Trump said.
