The hospital said after the surgery that Scalise remained in critical condition.
It all happened during practice at this field for an annual charity baseball game Thursday.
Texas Rep. Roger Williams, who coaches the GOP team, said that one of his aides, Zack Barth, was shot, but "is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery".
The alleged assailant, 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, was killed in a shootout with officers, two of whom were wounded, along with a congressional aide and a lobbyist. Hodgkin allegedly came to the practice, and opened fire on the practice field in Alexandria, Virginia.
Steve Scalise, the No. 3 Republican in the House of Representatives, had been shot in the hip and fell to the ground.
After visiting Scalise in the hospital last night President Trump used his favorite medium to let us know that Scalise needs our prayers.
Trump also met with other Capitol police officers who have gathered at the hospital and thanked them for their service.
The FBI said Wednesday it is actively investigating a possible motive, his associates and social media impressions.

He left a trail of blood as he dragged himself to the outfield, seeking distance from the gunman who said nothing as he fired.
A scream rang out from second base, Brooks said.

The attack was the first shooting of a member of Congress since January 2011, when Democratic Representative Gabby Giffords was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt at a gathering of constituents in Tucson, Arizona.
