It's a grand old Flag Day

"So he kind of really grew the company into what it is today", said Jodi Goglio, COO of Eder Flag, adding that each year on Flag Day, the company celebrates the annual holiday and its more than 200 employees by gathering for a luncheon.

- On Aug. 3, 1949, President Harry S. Truman declared June 14 as National Flag Day.

Flag Day in the United States is June 14, a day widely unrecognized by many people across the U.S. Flag Day was established to honor a resolution from 1777 which called for an official United States flag.

No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America.

"For more than two centuries, Americans have saluted Old Glory in times of trial and triumph". When a patriotic effect is desired the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. This was during the first summer of the Civil War.

We've added 37 stars since then but the USA flag has remained mostly unchanged over the centuries.

Wednesday, June 14, is Flag Day. President Eisenhower signed an executive order on January 3, 1959, which provided the arrangement of the stars in seven rows of seven stars, staggering the stars horizontally and vertically. The colors weren't haphazardly thrown together - red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity an innocence and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.

As we each have a birthday, our nation's flag, "The Stars and Stripes", also has a birthday. The name originally referred to that specific flag, but has now gone on to become associated with the American flag in general.

Sometimes it is a defiant objector in a far off land who does not share the American ideals of freedom and liberty and would prefer the demise of our democracy and what it signifies.

On National Flag Day, Americans show respect for the U.S. Flag and what it represents. "Listen to it! Every star has a tongue, every stripe is articulate".
