Greg Clark has retained the post of business secretary following a cabinet reshuffle in the wake of last week's general election.

Other Cabinet appointments include ex-Chief Secretary to the Treasury David Gauke being moved to replace Mr Green as work and pensions secretary.

Gove, who campaigned for Leave in last summer's European Referendum, replaces Andrea Leadsom in the role, following her move to the position of leader of the House of Commons.

One of the Cabinet's first tasks when it meets today is to consider the draft "confidence and supply" agreement sketched out with the DUP.

In a letter to Theresa May, Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson asked her to make clear whether the News Corp executive chairman had ever suggested Mr Gove should be given a ministerial job or warned that failure to take his advice might lead to "consequences" in terms of his newspapers' coverage of her administration. Conservative Party loyalists urged her to change her leadership style, while critics talked about her days being numbered.

But Kaine, a Virginia Democrat , said there was no decision within the campaign to use the word "matter" opposed to investigation. He said he decided he had to "protect the credibility of the investigation".

With media asking whether May could remain in Downing Street after her electoral humiliation, ministers said now was not the time for the further uncertainty that a party leadership contest would bring. The Brexit backer was humiliated during the Conservative leadership race in 2016, when he lagged behind in the second round, defeated by Theresa May, the eventual victor. In the Conservative manifesto air pollution was mentioned just once, despite the fact that the current crisis facing our country is linked to 40,000 premature deaths a year. "I think that's what the public would expect". "We could easily get to the middle of next week and it all collapses for her".

"I don't think we should rush that but I do think if we are going to have a leadership contest in the Conservative Party what we can not do is have another coronation like last summer".

So overall, we think Watson's question is fair enough.

"My judgment is that they are fed up to the back teeth with all this".

Formerly a Cabinet minister under David Cameron, he admitted to Sky News he had not expected a recall and was surprised to receive a phone call from Number 10 in his Surrey constituency. "I can't remember us having anything like 43 per cent of the vote". Beth Rigby says his complete absence in the election campaign was a signal of how his loyalty may have been viewed by Mrs May's inner circle.

He said his party would seek to vote down May's Queen's Speech, or programme for government, when she presented it to parliament on June 19, and another national election might be needed to break the deadlock.
