While Trump's staunchest supporters have tried to paint Comey's testimony as vindication for the president, few Republicans who don't work for Trump stepped in to defend the president's version of his contacts with Comey. Sen. In the post, the president said: "Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication. and WOW, Comey is a leaker".

Comey testified on Thursday that Lynch successfully pressured him into using the Clinton campaign's spin on the investigation of Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server as secretary of state.

After President Trump said Friday he is "100 percent" willing to testify under oath about the events that led to firing James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director, a House Democrat wants to take him up on it.

Trump's first question went to Dave Boyer of the Washington Times. After Mr. Trump fired Comey in May, Comey said he gave that memo to a friend, Columbia Law School professor Daniel Richman, who in turn gave the contents of the memo to the New York Times.

Alan Dershowitz spoke with Brian Kilmeade about yesterday's testimony by former FBI Director James Comey and how the media is blacking out the single most important part of the testimony.

He will file the complaint with the Justice Department's inspector general and also make a "submission" to the Senate's judiciary and intelligence committees about Mr Comey's testimony. But, she said, he was wrong to leak his notes to the public and should have given that document to her panel.

A visibly aggrieved Comey kicked off his testimony with a bid to set the record straight about the state of the bureau he led until he was sacked last month.

"The challenge - and I'm not picking on reporters about writing stories about classified information - is the people talking about it often don't really know what's going on".

The Department of Justice, however, issued a statement standing by the original explanation. And special counsel Robert Mueller's team will conduct a criminal investigation that, based on Mueller's reputation, likely won't produce many leaked tidbits or updates to the outside world.

The committee sent a second letter to White House Counsel Don McGahn, requesting, as a press release put it, "he inform the committee whether any White House recordings or memoranda of Comey's conversations with President Trump now exist or have in the past".

Still, there was no doubt the veteran lawman made for a challenging adversary.

Comey had accused Trump of lying and pressuring him to drop the FBI's investigation into ousted White House national security adviser Michael Flynn. "I was so stunned by the conversation, I just took it in".
