Lance Stroll will start his first home Grand Prix down in 17th after another disappointing afternoon but the day belongs to Hamilton as he equals his boyhood hero. Nico Hulkenberg's Renault rounded out the top ten.
Felipe Massa was seventh for Williams, while Force India duo Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon were eighth and ninth respectively.
Williams, however, have produced good performances on the island layout with a driver on the podium for the last two years.
