The intelligence ministry said the attacks were carried out by five Iranian men who had joined IS and travelled to their bastions in Iraq and Syria before returning home.

Iran's supreme leader shrugged off attacks by gunmen and suicide bombers in Tehran on Wednesday that killed 17 people as United States president Donald Trump warned the nation was reaping what it sowed.

However, the family names of the terrorists were not revealed due to social and security considerations.

Iranian authorities said five of the attackers were Iranian nationals recruited by IS, while Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards Corps blamed the assault on regional rival Saudi Arabia and has threatened revenge.

The cutting remarks from Khamenei came one day after Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, denounced President Trump's response to the suicide bombing as "repugnant".

"We grieve and pray for the innocent victims of the terrorist attacks in Iran, and for the Iranian people, who are going through such challenging times", Mr Trump's statement read.

"Iranian people reject such US claims of friendship", Zarif tweeted.

Iranian authorities have arrested seven people it suspects of helping militants involved in this week's attacks in the capital Tehran, a judiciary official said on Saturday.

On Thursday, Iran's Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said investigators were working to determine whether Saudi Arabia had a role Wednesday's attacks but said it was too soon to say if that was the case.

The video emerged before Iranian media reported that the siege had ended, with four attackers killed.

Iranian forces are backing embattled Syrian president Bashar Assad while the Shiite power is also supporting militias fighting against the extremists in Iraq.

The Eiffel Tower has turned out its lights, an iconic feature of Paris' nocturnal skyline, for several previous attacks, notably the Orlando shootings as well as last Saturday's attack in London which killed eight and for which IS also claimed responsibility.

At least 17 people were killed and more than 40 were wounded in the attacks.

The Islamic State group claimed the Tehran attacks; no link has emerged of Saudi Arabia's involvement.

However, Iranian security officials counter that it is their regional rival Saudi Arabia, a close U.S. ally, that is responsible for funding and spreading the extremism that underpins Daesh.
