Hyundai's number for the recall is 163.

The first and larger of the two recalls affects the 2013-2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport crossovers, and involves a faulty cable for the secondary hood latch.

Hyundai announced the double recall covering almost 600,000 vehicles combined. If this occurs, the latch could remain unlatched when the hood is closed.

The issue relates to the secondary hood latch, which is the one that's released when you pop the hood - the primary latch is the one you have to fish for. A cable for the secondary hood latch can corrode and fail to latch.

Obviously, this presents a big ol' safety hazard. Not only can the hood get in the way of forward visibility, it can smash the windshield if it contacts it with enough force.

Hyundai is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles in the U.S.to fix hood latch and parking brake warning light problems. As with all other recall-related work, it'll be free for the consumer.

The recall will officially begin June 30.

A second recall covers about 161,074 Hyundai Genesis and Sonata vehicles manufactured in 2015 and 2016.

Corrosion was also to blame for an issue with a switch involved in illuminating the parking brake, possibly keeping drivers from knowing the brake is on while driving.

Hyundai will notify owners of the issue in late June and dealers will replace the parking brake switch free of charge.
