Highlights from James Comey's first testimony since Trump fired him

Mr Comey said it was a matter of circumstances, the subject matter and the "person I was interacting with".

Kasowitz said Trump felt "completely vindicated" by Comey's testimony, and denied Comey's assertions - made under oath - that Trump pressured Comey to shut down an investigation into his national security adviser, Michael Flynn, and that the president asked his FBI director to pledge his loyalty.

"I was talking about matters that touch on the FBI's core responsibility and that relate to the president-elect personally", Comey said.

"Mr. Chairman, I don't think that's a question I can answer in an open setting. This is what he wanted to me to do", even though Comey said he did not end the probe. "I knew that there might come a day where I might need a record of what happened, not just to defend myself and Federal Bureau of Investigation and the integrity of our situation, and the independence of our function". I have seen the Tweet about tapes, Lordy I hope there are tapes. Richard Burr, R-N.C., if he was confident no votes were altered in the 2016 election, Comey said: "I'm confident".

Feinstein: "You're big. You're strong". "I was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of our meeting, and so I thought it really important to document", he said.

Comey says he chose his words carefully when responding to Trump because he was "so stunned" by the conversation.

"The combination of factors just wasn't present with either President Bush or President Obama", he said.

But the ex-FBI director also will validate Trump's assertion that he was not personally a target of the federal counterintelligence investigation into possible campaign collusion with Russian Federation. Comey said he had learned of his firing through the media. "That happened. It's about as unfake as you can possibly get".

Apple Pencil is faster than ever, beating the Surface Pen
The accessory is available for $99.99 and works with the new Surface Pro that, for whatever odd reason, doesn't ship with a pen. The Pen is virtually lag free as Microsoft cut down lag to 21 milliseconds, though the Apple Pencil beats it by 1ms.

Comey's detailed and vivid recollections of his one-on-one conversations with Trump were revealed in seven pages of prepared testimony released Wednesday, the day before his appearance before the Senate intelligence committee.

"There should be no fuzz on this whatsoever".

During the testimony, Comey said he had "no doubt" that Russian Federation was behind some tampering during the 2016 election. "This is about America, not about any political party".

Dressed in a dark suit and giving short, deliberative answers, Comey painted a picture of an overbearing president who he did not trust and who pressured him to stop the FBI investigating Flynn.

"Flynn at that point in time was in legal jeopardy", Comey replied.

In a phone call on March 30, Comey says the president asked him what could be done to "lift the cloud". But he said the changing stories about his firing, specifically that the Russian Federation investigation was the reason in Trump's thinking, had raised his sense of concern and ultimately led him to put into the public domain the contents of the memo about the Oval Office meeting on February 14. "They're just about their own advantage and they will be back".

"The president surely knows whether he taped me, and if he did my feelings aren't hurt". "I'm good with it", he said.
