Apple turned from the standard software and operating system to introduce new products, including the iMac Pro.
Apple announced updates to its MacBook models at the Worldwide Developers Conference Monday. You'll have to decide what's most important to you - cost, speed, or portability - and figure out which of Apple's notebooks best fits your needs. Dithering is now 10-bit, allowing for 1 billion colors to be displayed. When it launches in December, Apple's new iMac will be priced at, yikes, $4,999. System RAM can now be bumped up from 8GB to 16GB for an extra $200, and Apple says the included SSD storage is now up to 50 percent faster. You start of with Intels Iris iGPU, which still offers up to 80% increased performance over the previous generation. Dubbed, er, Metal 2, this update is aimed at machine learning and external graphics, Apple claimed, with the firm also announcing that Metal for VR will enable developers to start building VR experiences and use the HTC Vive with the Mac for the first time.
Now for the price. These include the base iMac 21.5 inch, iMac Retina 4K 21.5 inch and a top of the line iMac Retina 5K 27 inches. The 5K iMac Retina starts at $1,800. But Apple is updatings its laptop lineup, too, with 7th-generation Intel Kaby Lake processors inside.
MacBook Air? MacBook? MacBook Pro with Touch Bar?
Apple still positions the MacBook for people who are okay with good enough performance in a package that's easy to take on the go. But graphics options go far beyond integrated solutions with the new Radeon 500-series GPUs available across all models of the iMac. However, the internal cooling is much improved thanks to the dual centrifugal fan setup.
Trump reverses course in Qatar call
Standard & Poor's said Wednesday it has lowered its long-term rating on Qatar one notch to AA-, its fourth-highest level. Defence Secretary James Mattis spoke to his Qatari counterpart to express commitment to the Gulf region's security.
You also won't be able to upgrade the iMac Pro's RAM, another key factor also confirmed to 9to5Mac.
It will feature up to 18-Core Processors, 22 Teraflops of GPU Performance, Fast Storage and Advanced I/O.
Before you throw down more than $1,000, the big question is whether or not it's worth upgrading if you already have an iMac.
To make things interesting, Apple has also added our Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports so you can connect up to two high-performance RAID arrays and two 5K displays at the same time. Oh, and theres a 1080p FaceTime camera and a UHS-II port.
