It took a while for Apple to respond to Amazon's Echo and Google's Home, but the much rumoured "Siri speaker" is finally here. With the Homepod, Apple promises a newer and more efficient software for the speaker, as well as its other new products revealed at the conference.
The latest version of Apple's Safari browser will be able to stop automatically playing videos as well as online trackers used for advertisers.
Leading up to it, Apple says those outside app developers have earned more than $70 billion since Apple's app store launched in 2008.
Apple hopes to do to home speakers what the iPod did to music via the HomePod, a speaker that has "incredible acoustic properties" per the Apple impresarios who debuted it at today's WWDC.
Along with upgraded versions of iPad and Mac laptops, Apple provided look at an iMac Pro work station that had the computing built in behind the screen and was touted as the most powerful computer the company has ever made. Siri was unlike anything else on the market at the time; you could ask it questions about the weather, use it to perform complex calculations, and have Siri make calls and send texts for you.
"Just like with portable music, we want to reinvent home music", Apple CEO Tim Cook said.

An internet-connected speaker called HomePod is coming in December for about $350. Siri, Cortana, and Google Assistant are available on the market for years.
The company said its App Store has so far paid out 70 billion USA dollars to developers, of which 30 percent was made past year. It's been said that the speaker will prioritize sound quality and it is set to be released in the third quarter of the year. Furthermore, Apple stresses too much on privacy, and is not so big on using user's data too much. It says the HomePod uses an Apple Music subscription for "deep knowledge of personal music preferences".
"Whenever these companies try to freeze each other out, the consumer always loses", said Paul Verna, an analyst at research firm eMarketer. That's especially important because people are starting to access information, entertainment and search in a more "pervasive" way that's less dependent on smartphones, he said.
Analysts and investors were watching Apple's annual developers conference for signs of what the company's next blockbuster product might be a decade after the introduction of its iPhone.
Safari, Apple's web browser, is getting new features aimed at online annoyances. It also allows users to browse large product images and videos, and view star ratings and customer reviews on the product's detail page, the report explained. It will not block the ads themselves, though. Daryanani said Apple may also announce an iPad Pro with a faster processor in an attempt to revive its long-slumping tablet sales. Each of them differs with the core functionality but they are meant to serve the same objective.
Apple also released a software kit so developers could infuse augmented reality into applications for iPhones or iPads. It will also be paying more attention to what you do on your iPhone.
