"There was no conspiracy, it was an open movement like it happened during the Emergency".

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court in Lucknow on Tuesday granted bail to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti on personal bond of Rs50,000 each, in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

Sakshi Maharaj, another BJP leader and accused in the case also reasserted that he did not think that he did anything wrong by being a part of the movement that led to the demolition of the Babri mosque.

The demolition of the mosque followed a nationwide movement led by Advani and others for a temple at the site where the mosque was constructed by Mughal Emperor Babur. "This was a Ram Mandir and nothing in the world can stop us from building a temple there", Sakhsi Maharaj told CNN-News 18, moments before the case's hearing.

The Supreme Court had called the destruction of the mosque a "crime" which shook the "secular fabric of the Constitution" while allowing the CBI's plea seeking restoration of criminal conspiracy charge against the four BJP leaders, including Katiyar (62), and Ritambara (53) and Dalmia, who is in his late eighties. The demolition also buoyed the BJP to power in Uttar Pradesh and in other Hindi heartland states. Similarly, the Court will also frame charges against six others - Ram Vilas Vedanti, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Mahant Dharamdas, Champat Rai, Satish Pradhan and Baikunth Lal Sharma under Sections 153, 153 (A), 295, 295 (A) and 505 of the IPC.

Last month, the Supreme Court had ordered prosecution of Advani, Joshi, Bharti, and other accused for criminal conspiracy in the politically sensitive case.

The razing of the Babri Masjid incited nationwide riots between Hindus and Muslims; around 2,000 people were killed.

Advani on Tuesday morning met UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath after he arrived at the VVIP guest house here before leaving for the special court. Special CBI Judge SK Yadav had cautioned the accused persons that no further adjournment or exemption from personal appearance would be granted on next date.
