Officer's manslaughter trial heads to closing arguments

Crutcher's death rekindled chants of "Black Lives Matter" after he became the latest in a series of unarmed black men killed by police across the United States in recent years.

Shelby's attorneys argued that in the two minutes before cameras began recording the encounter, Shelby repeatedly ordered Crutcher to stop walking away from her and get on the ground. A judge has ruled that a jury can see aerial footage that shows Shelby fatally shooting Crutcher. Shelby has pleaded not guilty.

Closing arguments are to begin on Wednesday in the manslaughter trial of a white Tulsa police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man in an incident caught on video that stoked debate over racial bias in USA policing. They noted Crutcher had his hands in their air and wasn't combative - part of which was confirmed by police video taken from a dashboard camera and helicopter that showed Crutcher walking away from Shelby, hands held above his head. Ms Shelby also said she feared Mr Crutcher was under the influence of PCP, a powerful hallucinogenic known as Angel Dust. Crutcher was found to be unarmed after the shooting. McMurray said while Crutcher's death is a tragedy, it's not a crime.

"I'm told in my training that you don't let them pull their arm back out ... they can pull out guns and kill you", Shelby said under questioning by her attorneys, according to the Tulsa World. "If you hesitate or delay, you die". She implied sexism played a role in prosecutors portraying Shelby as emotional and out of control when she was upset with flunking a quiz for her certification as a drug-recognition expert.

"If a man had raised his voice, would he have had a meltdown?" McMurray asked. "I am offended".

Shelby testified Monday that she feared for her life and thought Crutcher was reaching inside his stalled SUV for a gun.

Trump, Turkish leader hail ties despite US arming of Kurds
During his joint press conference with Trump, Erdogan stressed that militant groups like the PKK and YPG "will never be accepted". Turkey views the YPG (the Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units) as terrorists and wants to stop them taking more territory in Syria.

"Somebody left their vehicle running in the middle of the street with their doors wide open", one caller said. Police found a vial of PCP in Crutcher's vehicle.

The defense for Shelby rested its case on Tuesday, and jurors were dismissed. "And because she didn't pause, my family, we've had to pause", Tiffany Crutcher said. Gray asked. "Yes", Shelby said, adding later that "if he would have only communicated with me and complied with what I asked, none of this would have happened".

The jury will decide whether Tulsa officer Betty Jo Shelby went too far September 16 when she killed 40-year-old Terence Crutcher on a city street where his SUV had stalled.

Now, an Oklahoma jury must decide whether Shelby should be convicted of first-degree manslaughter.

During cross examination, Assistant Tulsa County District Attorney Kevin Gray asked Shelby why she didn't use her Taser.

He criticized postings the group made on social medial about dealing with someone high on PCP and the quick decisions police must make before killing someone.
