Students across the country and here in northeast Wisconsin will be kicking up the kick-stands and putting on helmets on Wednesday for National Bike to School Day.
The growing popularity of Bike to School Day in North Carolina is due in large part to Active Routes to School, a partnership project between the North Carolina Division of Public Health and N.C. Department of Transportation.
In 2016, almost 70 percent of the organizers said their event led to planned, or already completed, policy or engineering changes. "Most of our students are not meeting this".
Prizes were awarded to students who rode their bikes and if you wore a helmet, you got a gift certificate for ice cream. For any parents looking to send their children off to school on a bike, Springdale says to check with your child's school to determine if they are participating.
