Linebacker Daryl Washington was conditionally reinstated by the NFL Tuesday, nearly three years after he was suspended by the league indefinitely because of violations of the league's policy on substances of abuse.
Former Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington is allowed back in the NFL.
"I'm honored and humbled to be back in the National Football League", Washington said in a statement provided to PFT.
The NFL would then review Washington's progress before green-lighting him for the regular season.
The NFL said in a statement that Washington, a second-team All-Pro in 2012, may rejoin the Cardinals to participate in meetings, conditioning work and similar activities. The NFL said once arrangements have been confirmed regarding Washington's clinical resources in Phoenix, he will be permitted to participate in preseason activities and games. Based on his compliance and engagement with his program and resources, he will be permitted to participate in all regular season activities beginning in Week 1. "He will be evaluated later in the season for full reinstatement".
Carlson leads in ratings in first night post-O'Reilly
Jenny Craig and menswear company Untuckit, both major advertisers on O'Reilly's show, had commercials Monday night as well. After May 1, it will be available via subscription - $4.95 a month or $54.95 a year.
Now Washington is 30 and hasn't played for the Cardinals since the 2013 season, meaning it could be an uphill climb for the linebacker to ever make a roster again, let alone make an impact.
Washington was suspended due to drug-related issues but also plead guilty in an aggravated assault case involving the mother of his child in 2013. Washington is not owed much in terms of actual salary, so if for some reason the team wants to continue to take chances on the player, he would be a relatively cheap contract on the roster.
The 6-2, 238-pound Washington had 394 tackles, 329 solo, with 18 sacks, six interceptions and three forced fumbles in three seasons.
The Cardinals also released a statement saying Washington's status with the team will be addressed at the appropriate time.
Washington's contract: frozen when suspended. under contract 4 more years.
