Firmino on target as Reds go 3rd

Liverpool gave their quest for a Premier League top four finish a huge boost following their hard-fought 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

After Manchester City were impressive 3-0 victors against Southampton on Saturday, Liverpool needed to respond in kind against a West Brom side who are notoriously strong at home.

"It is one of the most hard places to come because in no game can you feel comfortable", he told a post-match news conference. "In all our plans it was "no set pieces.no set pieces, no set pieces".

They were grateful for a smart save by the Belgian Mignolet from Matt Phillips late on, as well as some poor West Brom finishing, and Liverpool boss Klopp challenged his players to maintain their steely focus. 'But maybe there was another option which I didn't really know.

"We are very pleased with the performance and the three points is massive today. We defended well. We scored one goal and that was enough".

There were some who felt that the Reds went overboard with their celebrations with the travelling supporters after the game, but Klopp brushed aside those accusations with a honest reply: "I don't think we did insane things, but yes we are very happy".

Return leg against Bayern Munich is open: Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo and his Real Madrid side travel to Sporting Gijon on Saturday, before next Tuesday's return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. The La Liga leaders then started attacking more frequently on Munich's defense and Ronaldo scored again in the 77th minute.

"I said "it is already a good week for you, it could have been perfect".

The last two both have games in hand but United must win every one to draw level with Liverpool, while Arsenal would still be three points adrift if they won all three.

It was reported in March that Coutinho has had his head turned by the speculation, and wants to move to the Nou Camp.

Liverpool substitute Alberto Moreno wasted a golden opportunity in stoppage time when, with West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster forward for a corner, he led a Liverpool counter-attack but opted to shoot from distance at an open goal and missed, with teammates screaming for a pass.

"You're always going to get criticised by a small group of supporters, you have to manage that, but the majority of people understand what we're trying to do and where we're trying to get this football club".

"I think three, four, five fists away, which was really good, I have to say".
