Colorado posts lowest jobless rate

The office of Labor and Workforce Development said Thursday the state's total unemployment rate stood at 3.6 percent in March, an increase from 3.4 percent in February.

Compared to February, unemployment declined by.1 percent. While that nudged the unemployment rate upward from February's 10.2 percent, March represented a continuation of 66-month trend of rates that are lower than they were a year earlier. Unemployment hit a high of 7.3 percent for six months in 2010. And the unemployment rate fell to 4.5 percent from 4.7 percent, as more Americans found jobs. The labor force increased by 9,248 in March, according to the release.

Illinois' unemployment rate fell below 5 percent last month for the first time in a decade, significantly narrowing its persistent gap with the national rate.

The county rate of 3.3 percent was the second-lowest level in nearly a decade.

Unemployment statewide reached its lowest rate in almost 10 years during March.

In Fresno County, Gutierrez said government agencies represented the sector with the largest job gains, adding 1,800 jobs between February and March.

Monroe County had the state's lowest unemployment rate at 2.8 percent, while Hendry County had the highest unemployment rate at 6.4 percent.

Lawrence Officer, professor of economics at the University of IL at Chicago, said the drop in unemployment is "great news" for IL, but he is concerned that it remains markedly higher than its neighbors.

Only 10 of California's 58 counties had lower rates than San Diego in March.

The state's labor force has also expanded for the 12th consecutive month at a record-setting 4,290,397 jobs. Marin and San Francisco counties reported 3 percent jobless rates.

"I am encouraged to hear that almost 13,000 more Alabamians have a job today than did in February".
