Under British electoral law, May needs the backing of two-thirds of lawmakers. There were also a number of abstentions.

'Every vote cast for me, Theresa May, and the Conservatives will count towards strengthening Britain's hand in the Brexit negotiations and delivering our long-term vision for the UK.

Since being fired by Theresa May, Osborne has earned lucrative speaking fees and taken on an advisory role for American investment giant Blackrock.

Standing in Downing Street before a packed press gallery, May said Britain needed stability and strong leadership at this time. The choice before us is clear: "to trust the people and then let the public decide".

That approach risks satisfying neither its traditional working-class supporters, many of whom backed leaving the European Union, or its urban, pro-European members - leaving many commentators predicting an electoral disaster.

However, the unexpected elections might delay the beginning of the talks, which European Union officials said could begin as early as May.

Including these pledges in the manifesto makes it extremely hard for party members who voted to Remain to rebel on the issues if the party wins the snap election on June 8.

She said on Tuesday she had "reluctantly" come to the decision to call for an early election because of political division in Westminster, suggesting that opposition parties were trying to thwart her plans for leaving the EU.

Arkansas governor disappointed by court ruling
The Supreme Court has the final say on nearly every execution, and the justices reject all but a few emergency appeals by inmates. Arkansas had initially scheduled eight inmates to die over an 11-day period in April - the fastest pace of executions in decades.

However, the ICM/Guardian poll found that around three in five respondents said May was right to call an election.

Corbyn said years of Conservative austerity had led to falling living standards and called May "a prime minister who can't be trusted". Demmer said Wednesday: "The German government assumes that the negotiations can be continued without disruption".

Rejecting the PM's claim that an election is needed to prevent disunity at Westminster undermining a Brexit deal, Mr Corbyn said: "There is no obstacle to the Government negotiating, but, instead of getting on with the job, she is painting herself as the prisoner of the Liberal Democrats".

And at PMQs in the Commons, he told her: "She says it's about leadership, yet is refusing to defend her record in television debates and it's not hard to see why".

The British parliament is due to vote Wednesday on the call.

The fear of that economic damage has been reflected mainly in the pound's weakness since the initial shock of the Brexit result last June, which saw the currency tank from the $1.50 mark to 32-year lows around $1.20. "Now we will be much freer", she told The Sun. "I hope the former will be the case". He added: "If it isn't a triumphant success, it will be to some extent a personal failure".

The snap election announced by Theresa May yesterday, has been approved by MPs.

May said that opponents were intent on "frustrating the Brexit process", even after Parliament authorized talks with the EU. There won't be a scheduled British general election until June 2022, eliminating the risk of an election campaign disrupting the Brexit talks. "The Brexit talks are still set to be tough and the result could still deal a blow to the United Kingdom economy". Last month, they triggered the start of the exit process, which as I wrote at the time offers an opportunity for Britain and Taiwan to forge closer trading and cultural ties.
