Crediting the Centre for Vijay Mallya's arrest in London, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao on Wednesday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sent out a message to those who borrow public money, must pay up or land up in jail.
The 61-year-old liquor baron has to face charges in Indian courts in connection with loan default cases. "It was a voluntary action".
Tulsi said when there is a request for extradition then normally bail is granted only after 60 days, but Mallya was given the relief on the same day.
Meanwhile, Mallya from his account tweeted over his arrest and referred the whole episode as "usual Indian media hype".
Mallya, whose now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines owes more than Rs 9,000 crore to various banks, had left India on March 2, 2016. In January, an Indian court ordered a consortium of lenders to start the process of recovering the loans.

India has lodged a formal request that Mallya is extradited to his native country; this is likely to happen through an existing extradition treaty between Britain and India. However, earlier today, Mallya, while downplaying the din surrounding his sensational arrest in London, took a swipe at the Indian media.

"The government and all its agencies are certainly putting their best efforts.the investigating agencies believe an offence has been commited, for which the person is required in India", he added. "We are taking stringent steps and will not protect any offender", he emphasised. His Indian advocates B Munim and Desai are expected to assist in the proceedings, says a Times of India report. Senior officials of Ministry of Home Affairs said soon team comprising External Affairs Ministry, CBI and ED officers would visit London to co-ordinate with the Indian High Commission.
It would not be easy to extradite controversial industrialist Vijay Mallya, who went to the United Kingdom a year ago and did not return despite summons to him by the courts here for defaulting on loans, legal experts said.
