The first woman to run the Boston Marathon has completed the 26.2 mile race again - 50 years later.
Although Gibb was also in the race for the second year in a row, it was Switzer in official Bib No. 261 that so offended race director Jock Semple that he ran after her, in his blazer and slacks, and tried to pull her off the course.
Switzer has not run the Boston Marathon in decades but wanted to do it in 2017 to mark 50 years since she participated for the first time.
Switzer finished the race in 4:30:50, just 10 minutes off her 1967 time.
Geoffrey Kirui and Edna Kiplagat produced a Kenyan sweep at the Boston Marathon, winning the men's and women's races on Monday by conquering the race's hilly final miles to establish their dominance.
"People have such an appreciation for what running has done for them and how it's changed their lives", said Switzer, who named her 261 Fearless foundation after the bib number that was almost torn from her back on the marathon course.
Fifty years later, she was awarded the honour of firing the gun for the women's race. Who would have imagined, 50 years later and still toeing the line!
Switzer was a 20-year-old student at Syracuse when she entered the men-only Boston Marathon in 1967, using her initials on the registration form.
"It changed everything", she said.

Kathrine Switzer, now 70, was the first woman to cross the line in an all-male race in 1967.

Semple, who died in 1988, maintained he was trying to protect his race from global rules that sanctioned only men's marathons.
That's when Jack Semple, a race official, jumped off the press bus and ran after her. Boston Police Commissioner William Evans ran the marathon wearing a BPD singlet and MR8 written on his left bicep.
It's an impressive feat for someone whose coach once told her, "No dame ain't ever run no marathon".
Switzer went on to win the New York City Marathon in 1974 and successfully campaign for the women's marathon to become an Olympic sport in 1984.
Switzer went on to be the women's victor of the 1974 New York City Marathon and provide TV commentary in Boston for the last 37 years.
Men's champion Hayle won the 2016 marathon in a tactical 2 hours, 12 minutes and 44 seconds, while women's title holder Baysa won in 2:29:19. "Even though this is going to be hard, I'm the luckiest woman in the world to be here, surrounded by 261 Fearless friends and supporters".
