Born John Warren Geils Jr., the guitarist was found dead in his Groton, Massachusetts, home. "At approximately 4 pm, Groton Police responded to a home on Graniteville Road for a well-being check". He was declared dead at the scene... As is standard procedure in all unattended deaths, Groton Police Department is investigating, though there is no suspicion of foul play.
Centrefold, their biggest hit, topped the USA charts for six weeks in 1982 and reached number three in the UK. They scored a few Top 40 singles in the early Seventies, including "Give It to Me" and their cover of "Lookin' for a Love", an early Sixties tune by the Valentinos.

The group re-formed in 2009 without Geils, who wound up suing his ex-band mates in 2012 over the use of his moniker. At the time, Salwitz told Billboard, "It's great to be recognized, but it's a drag to be disappointed". I hope that we make it in.
